Buffalo Mountain

Impression

Buffalo Mountain is a decent mountain in Silverthorne, Colorado which offers awesome views in Summit County. I summited it on July 1st, 2017 in the afternoon. The hike takes about 5 hours round-trip from the trailhead which is accessible from the Wilderness Loop Summit Stage bus line. The mountain is known for mountain goats, I saw what appeared to be a family of mountain goats at the summit.

The summit of Buffalo Mountain had American flags that appeared to be stitched together. While ascending, I could not tell if the American flag was upside down or right-side up. I assume the flags were there only because this was 4th of July week. The mountain has a steep talus field after tree-line but you can find your way by following cairns which are visible almost the entire way up and down.

In July, especially on a Saturday, there are many hikers. I saw at least 5 groups summiting the mountain. You cannot expect to have solitude in July on the weekends on any mountain in Colorado during the sunlight hours. Last, but not least, prepare for mosquitoes in the summer all the way from the tree-line down to the trailhead.
