Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe

Last updated: January 28th, 2024

Background

On Monday, August 1st, 2022, I went up to the highest train stop in Europe at Jungfraujoch at 11,332 feet. August 1st is the Swiss National Day. I went up to the top after paragliding in Interlaken right before it. To get here, I went to the town of Grindelwald a few train stops away.

I went up to the top of Jungfraujoch at the end of the day and only had enough time to explore and catch the second to last train down. It is important to makes sure you have time to do what you want and get back on the train. You can go outside and walk in the snow. Therefore, it is important to have warm weather clothing as it is much colder than the town below.

To get to the top, first you buy a ticket and take a huge gondola. The gondola drops you off at a train which makes the final ascent. From there there are various paths to walk inside a mountain, one of which is pure ice. There are restaurants and shops at the top as well.

Overall, the trip to the "Top of Europe" offers incredible views of glaciers and the town below. Make this trip with enough time to do what you want at the top.
