Jökulsárlón (Jokulsarlon) is the deepest lake in Iceland and has icebergs floating in it. Visiting the icebergs was an incredible experience.
I arrived just after it stopped raining in the morning in late September, 2017. At this time there was heavy fog in the area, creating a mysterious atmosphere.
The icebergs are constantly changing and moving so each experience seeing them is unique. You can see many icebergs from land but you can also go out onto a boat and drive around them. I decided to do both.
There are a few companies that do tours of the icebergs, I went with Glacier Lagoon; the boat ride lasts about 30 minutes. During the boat ride, they tell you why the icebergs look the way they do, how they formed and also let you taste a piece of an iceberg.
I highly recommend visiting Jökulsárlón and the various stops around it to see the icebergs. Getting up close to them in a boat provides an even better experience. It was one of my favorite stops in Iceland and the fog, despite hindering visibility, made the experience even more spectacular.
