Milford Track

Last updated: January 28th, 2024

Background

On Thursday, March 9th, 2023, I started on the Milford Track hike. It's the most popular Great Walk in New Zealand and typically sells out many months in advance. I was able to go because I found a single opening at just one day before.

Transport

For transport, I booked through Fiordland Outdoors. At 1:25PM, I took the Tracknet Bus from the visitor center in Te Anau to Te Anau Downs. From there I took the 2:00PM boat to the start of the Milford Track. On Sunday, March 12th at 1:10PM, I took the water taxi from Sandfly Point to Milford Sound. After this, I waited for the Cheeky Kiwi Bus back to Te Anau visitor center, where I started.

Hiking Milford Track

The first day required a boat trip and then a short hike to Clinton Hut. On Friday, the hike was to Mintaro Hut. Finally, on Saturday the hike was to Dumpling Hut. The last day was a hike to Sandfly Point to be picked up by a boat.
