Impression
I went to Alcatraz during the day from San Francisco. Once you arrive, you have an orientation and can explore on your own with or without an audio tour. Alcatraz is extremely touristy and it can take months to get a reservation for a boat during the day, it's even harder at night. Certain parts of the island smell terrible due to birds.
