About Bodie

Bodie, California is a ghost town in that is in a state of arrested decay. This means that everything stays just as it was when the town was abandoned and acquired by the state park system in 1962. Bodie sits at 8,379 feet above sea level. It was once one of the largest cities in California due to the gold rush but once the gold became too hard to mine, people left as fast as they came. Bodie has been named California's official state gold rush ghost town.

My Experience

Bodie has volatile and at times, harsh weather. While I was there, there was sun, clouds, rain, hail and wind within a matter of an hour. It is considered bad luck to take anything from Bodie.

I visited the park two times, right before it closed on October 29th and right as it opened on October 30th. I wanted to avoid the crowds, which make it difficult to take photos. I drove in and out from the North the first day and on the second day I drove in from the North and out South to Mono Lake.
