Convict Lake

Last updated: January 28th, 2024

Background

I originally intended to visit Devils Postpile National Monument on Sunday, June 16th, 2019 but, it was closed due to snow. Instead, I decided to visit Convict Lake, after meeting someone at the Clocktower Cellar Pub. There is a 2.5 mile loop around the lake which is highly trafficked by people. I woke up at the Moderne Hostel and hiked the lake.

The lake, known for fishing, boating and the surrounding mountains, is named after a group of convicts which had escaped from prison in Carson City, Nevada. The convicts were encountered by a Sheriff near Convict Creek in which killings occurred.
