Background
On Monday, January 23rd, 2023, I visited Putangirua Pinnacles and did the Pinnacles Track Loop hike. The hike is free to do. I woke up that morning along the beach nearby at a campsite. Many people were camped at the trailhead of the hike, however.
I began the hike at 7:32AM, before anyone I saw had begun. This was critical for taking drone photos as many people later entered the pinnacles area. I reached the endpoint and started droning before there was any sunlight. Shortly after I landed the drone, it started raining. I continued hiking up to a viewing platform. From here, I started droning again. By this point the sun had come out and gave a different perspective on the area.
Seens from Lord of the Rings were filmed at this location. It was during the "Paths of the Dead" scene.
