Impression
I drove to Denali National Park from Fairbanks in the morning. Savage Alpine Trail in Denali National Park is about 8 miles round trip from the trailhead. The trail is frequented in summer months but I went during mid-April with no one around. This year there was quite a bit of snow on the trail. The snow slowed me down and the patches without snow made it easy to get lost. It's important to take snapshots of your GPS or chart yourself on a map along the way to prevent getting lost.
The snow can get quite deep, I was up to my hips in snow a few times. I was warned of bears, it's a good idea to take bear spray, there were some spotted in the area a day or so before I was on the trail. You will need polls and ice spikes to do this trail in the snow, the park actually lets you borrow both poles and ice spikes for your boots at the Denali Visitor Center.
I hiked until there were no more footprints in the snow and then made some of my own for a few hundred feet afterwards. Near the top of the trail you can see Denali well on a clear day. You can find more details about the trail path on AllTrails.
