Delicate Arch Trail

Background

On Wednesday, December 30th, 2020, I hiked to Delicate Arch in Utah's Arches National Park, starting the hike just before 2:00PM. The hike is highly trafficked and it took time to find a place to park in the lot. During this time of year, there are patches of snow and a the final walkway completely covered in snow. Many people were unprepared for the snow and didn't have microspikes. They fell or walked very slowly on the final section to the arch. I came prepared with micospikes and quickly passed these people.

The hike is about 3 miles long and it takes about 45 minutes to get to the arch from the trailhead. Given the quantity of people waiting to take photos, getting an unobstructed photo of the arch can take several minutes or perhaps an hour depending on the time of day and year. The arch is famous and is featured on Utah's license plate.

After this hike, I camped on BLM land off U.S. Highway 191, near 313. There were several first-come-first-serve spots here to camp.
