Devils Garden in Arches National Park

Background

On Thursday, December 31st, 2020, at 10:00AM, I started hiking in Devils Garden. It's located Utah's Arches National Park.

The hike was best to done wearing microspikes due to the snow and most people I saw on the hike were wearing them. I tried to follow the loop which was shown on AllTrails, the Devils Garden Loop Trail with 7 Arches. Once I got to a section of it however, it seemed impassable due to the steep rock and ice. It was not safe to continue in this direction so I returned and went another way that wasn't clear but ended up at another arch.

This was a difficult hike, requiring scrambling and walking on some fin-like edges. The arches on this hike are unique. Landscape Arch, at 290-feet, is the longest arch in the world. Double O arch is also unique in that it has 2 arches. Although I did not track the hike with GPS, it took a little over 4 hours to complete and was supposed to be around 8 miles.

After hiking, I camped off of U.S. Highway 191, on Little Valley Road near Dinosaur Trackway on BLM land. This was where I spent New Year's Eve, there were some vans off in the distance that night.
